ZAPATA, TEXAS---Xavier "Tavy" Villarreal 77, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at his ranch in Laredo, Texas.

Tavy was a Zapata Native who attended Zapata High School and graduated in 1965. He built a 26 plus years career with Texaco, Inc. Together with his wife Janet they built a local business, T & J Office Supply where they served their beloved community for 42 years.

His lifelong passion was the cattle and ranching business he learned that from his grandfather Charles Alexander and his father Alfredo Villarreal.

Tavy loved helping people and being active in the community serving as County Fair President, Lions Club Member, School Board Member, Water District Board Member and local politics. But most of all loving his family.

Tavy's family would like to thank the professionalism and attention to detail of the Webb Co. Sheriff's Department and Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

Mr. Villarreal is preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Carlota Villarreal.

Mr. Villarreal is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet R. Villarreal; son, Xavier "Tavy" Jr. (Marci Flores) Villarreal; daughters, Leslie V. (Israel E.) Gutierrez, Sara Lee (Aaron) Alaniz; grandchildren, Israel E. Jr. (Laurie) Gutierrez, Vanessa (Carlos) Lopez, Cristina (Jose Luis) Rodriguez, Carlota (Elias) Minor, Janet Hinojosa (Livan Lopez), Jake Gutierrez, Dylan X. Villarreal, Xavier R. Hinojosa, Taylor A. Villarreal, Angel R. Alaniz; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfredo Jr. "Fritz" (Yolanda) Villarreal, Carlos "Chale" Villarreal and by numerous nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. with a chapel service at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
