ZAPATA, TEXAS---Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Romeo R. Ramirez 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

He was a graduate of the Martin High School Class of 1956, and in 1987, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Corpus Christi State University.

He was heavily involved in many aspects of his life, some of which included giving back to the community by volunteering as a firefighter and fire marshal, along with serving on the Zapata County Independent School Board and the Zapata County Fair Association. He also worked for the Pennzoil Company for nearly 25 years, eventually retiring as an Area Supervisor.

He additionally served as a businessman, rancher, heavy equipment operator, Zapata County Sheriff, and founding member of the Zapata County Sheriff's Posse.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Diamantina Ramirez and his half- brothers, Abel Rene and Romeo Ramirez.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Rebecca G. Ramirez, and their children: Norma Y. Ramirez, Laura (Jose Candido) Ramirez, Abel Rene (Francisca) Ramirez, and Romeo R. (Marisol) Ramirez. His grandchildren: Ana Katrina Ramirez, Jose Candido (Alisha) Ramirez, Jr., Romeo Rodolfo Ramirez, III, Briana Yvette Rendon, Andrea Jovanna Ramirez, Rebecca Renee Ramirez, Alicia Daniela Ramirez, Anai Renee Ramirez, Abel Rene Ramirez, Jr., and Rene Rodolfo Ramirez; his great-grandchildren, Jose Candido Ramirez, III, Daniel Elias Martinez, Eliyanah Grace Martinez, Catalina Camarillo, Addison Rose Ramirez, and Mario Alberto Martinez, III; his God-Daughter Lucy Hernandez. His brother Renato (Patricia Lourdes) Ramirez, and myriad of many family and friends.

The Ramirez family would like to thank and recognize Mary Plattner, FNPC, the Zapata Primary Care Clinic Staff, Elva (Vita) Garcia and Serenity Home Health and Hospice Care, Isela Guerra and Cardinal Medical Equipment, Victorious Ambulance Service, Sheriff Raymundo Del Bosque and the Zapata County Sheriff's Office, and St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. We are grateful for your diligence, patience, compassion, and generosity through the services you've provided.

Visitation hours will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

On Saturday, March 18, 2023 we will open at 8:00 a.m. and a chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
