ZAPATA, TEXAS---Romeo Alvarez 54 "The Voice of the Hawks", passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his residence in Zapata, Texas.

Mr. Alvarez is preceded in death by his father, Roberto Alvarez.

Mr. Alvarez is survived by his wife, Annabel Gonzalez-Alvarez; children, Angelica Alvarez, Venessa A. Garcia, Roberto "Bobby" Garcia; mother, Maria Del Carmen M. Alvarez; brothers, Roberto Jr. (Marina) Alvarez, Rene Eli (Maria Adela S.) Alvarez, Ruben A. (Crystal H.) Alvarez, Rodemiro E. Alvarez; sister, Rosario I. (Omar, Jr.) Garcia; in-laws, Jaime A. (Carmen B.) Gonzalez; brothers-in-law, Jaime A. (Rina R.) Gonzalez and Daniel A. (Abigail M.) Gonzalez and by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Romeo was a proud graduate of Hebbronville High School Class of 82' where his love of sports began. Romeo was also a Texas A&I University Alumni. Romeo began his career working at Texas Department of Human Services and later was a devoted ZCISD employee. He was a true Hawk fan and supporter. He also lived to root for his Texas Teams; his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and San Antonio Spurs.  Romeo was a passionate Hawk Baseball announcer and was known to all as "The voice of the Hawks." His infamous words, "Hawks win, Hawks win" will remain a legacy and will continue to resonate in Hawk Nation. He concluded each athletic season with these words and we now say them one last time for you, Romeo, "Thanks for the memories, they last a lifetime."

Visitation hours will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

The funeral procession will depart on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
