Patsy Shields, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 21, 2026.

Patsy was a kind, funny, spirited woman with a playful personality and a spark for life that never dimmed. She loved music, singing, dancing to her favorite songs, and especially enjoyed Zumba classes at Villa South, where her joy was contagious. Feisty in the best way, she brought laughter and warmth wherever she went.

She found happiness in life's simple pleasures – gardening, fishing, bowling, playing board games, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

Patsy was known for her generous heart and thoughtfulness. Even when she had little, she was quick to help others and enjoyed putting together care packages to let family and friends know they were loved. She was also a wonderful cook and took pride in maintaining a warm and welcoming home.

In her early years, Patsy was one of the first female police officers in Vernon, Texas, before dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker. Above all else, she cherished her family and her role as "Granny," creating treasured memories that will be held close forever.

In her later years, Patsy resided at Villa South Memory Care, where she received compassionate and dignified care. The family is deeply grateful to April Treviño and the rest of the Villa South team, and to Elara Caring Hospice for their kindness and support.

She is survived by her children Terry Boyd (Lynda) and Shari Bower; her granddaughter Jennifer Main (Jason), who lovingly cared for her and advocated for her throughout her later years; and her grandchildren Dylan Boyd, Derrek Boyd (Abby), Brook Bower, Thomas Shields, and Sean Shields. Patsy also shared a special bond with Stan and Ingrid White, who held a dear place in her heart. She is further survived by extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Shields; her son Tom Shields; her parents Bradford Bourland and Inez Atwood; and her beloved friends Margie and Elaine.

A memorial service will be held at Rose Garden Funeral Home in Zapata, Texas, at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026. Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patsy's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
