ZAPATA, TEXAS—

Maria A. Gonzalez 79, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Falcon Nursing Home in Zapata, Texas.

She was born on April 4th, 1945 in Rancho Nuevo, N.L.

On May 9th 1970, Maria A. married Juan F. Gonzalez marking the beginning of a numerous and beautiful family.

Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, tending to her plants, making homemade tortillas and empanadas and loved being surrounded by her pets.  She was a very devoted wife and mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother.  Aside from being the matronal figure, she also loved preaching the good word of Jehovah.

Maria A. Gonzalez is preceded in death by her parents, Sara Cantu-Chapa and Pedro Cantu, sister Maria Elda Villareal-Cantu.

Maria A. Gonzalez is survived by her husband, Juan F. Gonzalez; children, Norma I. (Abel) Mireles, Johnny Gonzalez, Vegonia (Johnny) Macias, Veronica (Orlando) Bustamante, Arturo (Lee Ann) Gonzalez; grandchildren, Klarisa (Rogelio Gonzalez) Korinthia, Krisela, Johnny Jr., Zeth, Kristabel, Xander, Kaelynn, Koraleigh, Arturo, Katie, Kaylee, Josh, and Karlee; great grandchildren, Nikolas, Rael, Raudel, Kenzie, Klarabel, Ezra, Kehlani, and Greyson; sisters, Maria Elena (Eliborio+) Perez, Consuelo Ruiz and brother Paulino (San Juana+) Cantu; Half sisters Antonia(Patricio) Chapa, Amalia (Julio) Gutierrez, Imelda Cantu, Half brothers; Pedro Ana)Cantu, Ernesto(Diana) Cantu, Sijifredo (Orfalinda) Montemayor and by numerous nephews,nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family and  friends.

Visitation hours were held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 8:00 am followed by a chapel service at 10:00 am at the Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services followed at Zapata County Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home Daniel A. Gonzalez, Funeral Director, 2102 N. US HWY 83 Zapata, Texas.
