Maria Placida Garcia

February 4, 1944 - November 28, 2024

Maria Placida (Play) Garcia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Placida was born on February 4, 1944, in Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Mexico as the only daughter to Nicolasa and Pedro Sanchez. She was raised by her adoptive parents, Concepcion and Jesus Sanchez, after the death of her biological mother when Placida was only an infant. Placida's upbringing shaped her unwavering strength and deep compassion. Both sets of parents have preceded her in death.

Maria's faith was her guiding light and her family her greatest treasure. No matter the circumstances, whether she was working or staying at home, feeling well or facing challenges, her devotion to her faith and family never wavered. Her love radiated most brightly when she was surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought great joy to her life. She instilled in her family the values of love, resilience, and togetherness.

As a devoted animal lover, she often shared childhood stories about caring for the animals around her. As an adult, her compassionate heart led her to take in many stray dogs and cats left near her home. Her love for animals became a legacy she passed on to her children, instilling in them the same respect and kindness toward all creatures.

She is survived by her husband, Cesar Garcia, her loving children: Patricia G. McKeever (David), Angelica Garcia (Isidro), Jesus Amado Garcia, Adriana Peña (Joel), Ana Lilia Garcia (Esmeralda) and her sister Cira Jaramillo.

Maria Placida leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Mario Talamante, Marianna Talamante, Janette Vela, Cassandra Peña, Joel Peña, Jesse Peña, Victoria Alford, Gavin Garcia Alford, Ethan Alford, Priscilla Garcia, Mark Garcia, Jesus Garcia Jr., Mia Garcia, Jose Gutiérrez, Roman Garcia

She was blessed to have loved her 10 great grandchildren: Alejandro Talamante, Jayden Hinojosa, Marissa Hinojosa, Juan García III, Jonathan Vela, Janelli Vela, Jose A Vela, Jonathan Garcilazo Jr., Nathan Garcilazo, Natalie Garcilazo.

Her memory will forever remain a source of love and comfort to her family and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the love she spread throughout her journey.

Visitation hours will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

On Saturday December 7, 2024, we will open at 8 a.m. The funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Zapata, Texas.

Committal services will follow at Lopeño Cemetery.
