SAN YGNACIO, TX---Luis Alfonso Lozano, age 80, passed away Saturday, July 29th, 2023, surrounded by his family, at his home in San Ygnacio, TX. He was born in Laredo on March 6th, 1943, to Delfino Lozano, Jr., and Consuelo Lourdes Flores Lozano. He graduated from Martin High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 1966. He returned home to work in the family business in San Ygnacio where he later married his beautiful wife, Edna Amada Muñoz Lozano in 1968.

Luis is survived by his wife, Edna Amada; daughters Linda Adriana Montemayor (Oscar) and Edna "Nita" Amada Lozano; and son Daniel Arturo Lozano. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Isela Crisp and grandchildren Sarah I. Lozano (Alberico, Jr.), Luis A. Lozano, III, Melanie Crisp, Amado Daniel Lozano, Amando Daniel Lozano, Maya D. Montemayor, Diego O. Montemayor and great-granddaughter, Davina Myah Salinas. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law, Minerva Dilley Lozano, sisters Patricia L. (Renato) Ramirez, Diana (Jeffrey) Czar, Ana Maria Biediger, Dolores (Juan) Medina, Norina Lozano, brothers-in-law Flumencio (Amada) Muñoz and Luis Antonio (Bettina) Muñoz, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Luis Alfonso Lozano, Jr., parents Delfino and Consuelo Lozano, parents-in-law Belia R. Benavides and Florentino Munoz, brother Delfino Lozano, III and brother in-law Omar A. (Hermelida) Muñoz.

Luis loved life in San Ygnacio. He loved spending his time at his store, a business expanding multi-generations, and the place where he was able to regularly see many life-long friends as well as make new ones. If anyone needed to know anything about San Ygnacio, the surrounding ranches and the people in the area, all it took was stopping by to visit Luis at the store and he would fondly share the rich history of the people, places, and colorful cast of characters that make up San Ygnacio. His daily routine involved checking in on his farm and ranches, keeping up with his passion for racing horses, and tracking the weather forecast. His greatest loves, undoubtedly, were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was happiest when his home was filled with the commotion of having his family together.

Luis' family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the health care workers who provided care during his battle with leukemia. They all demonstrated the utmost professionalism, passion for their field of work and most of all, empathy for the entire family.

Visitation will be at the Rose Garden Funeral Home in Zapata, TX on Wednesday, August 2nd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. pm with a rosary starting at 7 p.m.

The funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 3rd, for a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Refugio Catholic Church in San Ygnacio.

Committal service will follow at the "Panteón Del Pueblo" in San Ygnacio, Texas, including full Military Honors by the Zapata County Color Guard.
