ZAPATA, TEXAS---Lucas Coronado, Jr. 93, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Lucas was born and raised in Zapata, Texas. He was married to Maria U. Coronado on May 29, 1949; they were happily married for 52 years.

Lucas worked as an operator for the Texas Highway Department for over 30 years where he made lifelong friendships.

Lucas was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, ranch life, hunting, taking care of the cattle, animals and had a green thumb for planting. He was always on the move, fixing things that need fixing, checking on his grapevines, cutting oranges from his tree, singing and always had a smile in his face. He was a playful grandfather who enjoyed being visited by his grandkids and great grandkids. He leaves behind many life lessons, memories and a great example of love, bravery, strength, hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Mr. Coronado is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Urbina Coronado; brothers, Adan Coronado and Juan Coronado and by a sister, Lamar Elizondo.

Mr. Coronado is survived by his son, Romeo Coronado; grandchildren, Griselda (Josue) Martinez, Edna Coronado (Jose Hernandez), Elizabeth Coronado (Cristian) Lagunes, Jorge Coronado; great-grandchildren, Josue Martinez, Jr., Andres Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Angel Hernandez, Alex Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Caleb Lagunes, Caden Lagunes, Lucas Lagunes, Jorge Coronado, Jr. and by numerous nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

We would like to inform the community that due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), County and State mandates we will be having a private viewing for immediate family members only.

A private graveside service will be held at Zapata County Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home Daniel A. Gonzalez, Funeral Director, 2102 N. US HWY 83 Zapata, Texas.
