ZAPATA, TX – Leopoldo Trevino, 95 of Zapata, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 24, 2018 surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Filiberto Trevino, Sr. and Luisa C. Trevino, his sister, Adela T. Ramirez and brothers, Teodoro Trevino, Anselmo Trevino, Antonio Trevino, Jose Manuel Trevino, and Filiberto Trevino, Jr. He is survived by his sisters Conception T. Ramirez and Luisa T. Lopez.

Leopoldo is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Emma Vela Trevino and their three children, Alma T. (Roland) Garza, Leopoldo Trevino, Jr., and Emma Nelda T. (Ricardo) Guevara.

Leopoldo had seven grandchildren, David W. (Anita) Garza, Dina G. (Wade) Van Hoose, Dariel I. (Selena) Garza, Diana G. (Edmundo) Martinez, Danny (Monica) Guevara, Sergio X. (Lynette) Guevara, and Luis Carlos (Gabriella) Guevara.

Leopoldo's great-grandchildren are: Benjamin W. Garza, Savannah Garza, Isabella Garza, Victoria Martinez, Katalina Van Hoose, Derek Garza, Dylan Garza, Vivienne Martinez, Skyler Guevara, Aiden Guevara, Emma Guevara, Sergio Guevara, Sebastian Guevara, Stevan Guevara, Leopoldo "Leo" Guevara and Kively Salinas.

Pallbearers: are his grandsons, David W. Garza, Dariel I. Garza, Danny Guevara, Sergio Guevara, Luis Carlos Guevara and his oldest great-grandson Benjamin W. Garza.

Leopoldo was born on October 27, 1923 in Zapata, Texas to Filiberto and Luisa C. Trevino. He helped his father work their land and learned about ranching and carpentry from his father. He became a master carpenter and had the opportunity to work on the construction of the Falcon Dam and was a foreman for a construction company until he retired and dedicated himself to ranching and was blessed to have enjoyed going to the ranch and hunting until recently.

Leopoldo joined the U.S. Army on June 24, 1943 and served in the 586th Antiaircraft Battalion and took part in the preparation of the invasion of Okinawa Japan. He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1946. Throughout his military service he carried an image of "La Virgen de Guadalupe" whose image he carried until his passing and he will forever have by his side in eternal life.

Leopoldo was the last surviving brother of six Trevino brothers who served during World War II. He proudly told about his many life experiences and war stories to anyone who listened. When one would listen, one could hear the passion in his voice and see his eyes gleam with emotion. His acts of bravery and heroism are great examples of his personality and character.

In 2015, Leopoldo Trevino and the memory of all his brothers was honored in Washington D.C. in the House of Representatives by Congressman Henry Cuellar for their service during World War, II. The State of Texas also passed a Resolution in Honor of the Trevino Family.

Leopoldo was a very gentle, noble, caring, and kind man who was very devoted to his family and country. He lived an exemplary life of patriotism, hard work, love, and honor and created a great legacy for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours were held on Monday, November 26, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

The funeral procession departed on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Burial services followed at Zapata County Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 486 Color Guard.
