Julia Gracia Rangel passed away peacefully in her home on January 1, 2026, surrounded by her children. Her passing marked the end of a long, beautiful life defined by resilience, devotion to family, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.

Julia was born in Guerrero Viejo, Tamaulipas on April 12, 1926. She was a woman who valued community, tradition, and hard work. She moved to Escobas, Texas in 1951 when she married the love of her life, Romulo Rangel. Their marriage was a true partnership—rooted in love, faith, and a shared commitment to building a life for their family.

She enjoyed her life at the ranch and tended to the family grocery store and Texaco gas station even after Romulo's passing in 1969. Julia stepped into this responsibility with grace and determination to build a life and provide her children a formal education. She remained in Escobas until 1998, when she moved to Zapata, Texas, where she lived until her death.

She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, volunteering with the Sacred Heart Society. Her faith was not only a belief but a way of life—expressed through service, compassion, and a deep sense of gratitude. Julia enjoyed spending time with close friends and traveling to see her grandchildren participate in various activities. She was the kind of grandmother who showed up—cheering from the stands, celebrating every milestone, and offering unwavering support. Julia spent her life filling others with love, laughter and kindness. Her gentle humor, her ability to listen, and her instinct to nurture made her a source of comfort and joy to all who knew her.

Julia will be deeply missed by her three children: Bertha (Lupe) Cruz, Romulo (Isabel) Rangel, and Alicia (Bill) Richards; her seven grandchildren: Joey Cruz, David (Elizabeth) Cruz, Gabriel Cruz, Adrian (Marlene) Cruz, Romisa Rangel, Sara Garcia (Gil McDonald), and Carlos Garcia; as well as Nasario Cruz (Christina) whom she also considered a grandchild. Her family was her greatest pride, and she poured her heart into each generation with the same boundless affection. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Ethan Lopez, Jayden Cruz, Nathan Cruz and Alex Cruz. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters: Yolanda Gracia and Alicia Gracia Saenz. Her bond with her sisters remained strong throughout her life, a testament to the deep family ties that shaped her. She was preceded in death by her husband Romulo Rangel and eight brothers and sisters.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the physicians and caregivers who provided her loving and tender care during her final years:  Dr. Leticia Volpe & Dr. Edmundo Garcia; her caregivers Elvia Garcia, Alma Hernandez, Toño Resendez, Lucero Quintanilla, Eunice Rangel, and Rosalinda Sornia.

A celebration of Julia's life will be held at Rose Garden Funeral Home in Zapata. The family will welcome relatives and friends on Sunday, January 4th at 6pm for visitation hour. A rosary will then follow at 7pm. Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 5th. A funeral mass will take place at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, followed by her interment at the Zapata County Cemetery. The family invites all who knew and loved Julia to join them in honoring a woman whose life was defined by faith, family, and an enduring spirit of kindness.
