ZAPATA, TEXAS---Josefina Forthun 83, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, Texas.

Mrs. Forthun is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Julian Forthun; parents, Bernardino Acosta and Iluminada Quiñones.

Mrs. Forthun is survived by her nephew, Jose Alberto Acosta; and grand-nephew, Jose Alberto Acosta, Jr. and by numerous nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Ms. Josie as she was known to many friends was born in San German, Puerto Rico.

When she moved to Zapata, Ms. Josie was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. And soon became involved with many of the catholic organizations.  She was a Eucharist Minister and would often take the Eucharist to the elderly at the Nursing Home and the sick at their residence. She was a proud and faithful member of Legion de Maria where she was currently serving as president.  She was also a member of the Sagrado Corazon, Renovacion Carismatico and Ministerio Santa Martha. She spent most of her days volunteering at the office or with mass. Many times she volunteered to pray the rosary during funeral services.

Visitation hours were held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 4 p.m. with a Catholic chapel service at 6:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services followed at Zapata County Cemetery.
