José Manuel Garcia, Jr., age 91, of Castroville passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023.  He was born July 30, 1931, in Zapata, the son of José Manuel and Josefa (Gutierrez) Garcia. He was a strong man who valued his faith in Jesus Christ and the company of his family and friends. He loved the outdoors, particularly ranching.  José was also a Korean War-era veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lucinda Juarez Garcia, his parents, his sister, Imelda, and his brother, Delfino.

José is survived by his daughters, Juanita G. Prazak (Michael) of Castroville, and Mary Lou Rangel of San Antonio; sons, José F. Garcia (Marivel) of Laredo, Jaime H. Garcia (Irene) of Laredo, and Jesus M. Garcia of Uvalde, along with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Olivia Byers (Bob), Mary Archer, and brother Reynaldo (Tina).

Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Rose Garden Funeral Home in Zapata.  The Holy Rosary will begin at Rose Garden at 10:00 a.m.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes.

Burial services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery including full Military Honors by the Zapata County Color Guard and Fort Sam Houston Color Guard.
