Steve Threlkeld was born on August 10, 1943 in Waco, Texas to LaVerne and Henry Austin Threlkeld, Jr.  He grew up in Fort Worth and attended North Texas State University in Denton on a golf scholarship.  While at North Texas, he met Susan Drattlo. Steve and Susan married on March 27, 1965 sharing a love that would last 56 years.

That year the couple moved to Midland where Steve worked as an Assistant Golf Pro at Midland Country Club.  In 1970, they moved to Abilene where he became the Head Golf Pro at Abilene Country Club.  Following that he became Director of the LaJet Classic and the LaJet Amateur Golf Tournaments. Steve was proud to be honored by the PGA of America as a member of the Half Century Club in 2019.

Steve's business acumen led him to become Financial Advisor for Merrill Lynch in Abilene and later Vice President and Senior Financial Advisor in Wichita Falls.

In 2009, the couple moved to Zapata, Texas where in retirement, Steve pursued his passion for fishing.

Steve and Susan had two sons, Todd and Ryan, who also shared their dad's passion for golf, hunting and fishing.

Steve died at his home in Zapata on August 7, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Threlkeld.

Survivors are Susan, sons Todd (Kathy) of Aspen, Colorado; Ryan (Sonya) of Round Rock, Texas; sister Debbie Mahurin (Gene); granddaughters Andrea, Natalya (Nathan), Sierra; great grandson, Eli; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In accordance with Steve's wishes, there will be no service.  At a later time, his ashes will be scattered in his beloved Falcon Lake.
