ZAPATA, TEXAS---Guadalupe R. "Lupe" Gutierrez, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Guadalupe "Lupe" Gutierrez was a loving and devout husband, a wonderful and caring father, and an exceptional grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Music was one of Lupe's passions: He loved to sing and play his guitar for his family and friends at formal and informal parties, family gatherings, and church mass. His love of music was well known to many people and he was often eager to perform.  Lupe was no stranger to hard work and always reached out to others if and when they needed a helping hand. He was especially happy when he was surrounded by his family and friends, joking and laughing until it was time to call it a day. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew him and his wonderful sense of humor.

Mr. Gutierrez is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia Emma Gutierrez and parents, Guadalupe and Lucia Gutierrez.

Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his children, Guadalupe (Rebecca) Gutierrez, III, Jorge Roel (Carmen) Gutierrez, Julian Javier (Hortencia) Gutierrez, Crisella Gutierrez (Jose Delgado), Iris Gutierrez (Miguel Villarreal); grandchildren, Jose Luis (Arian) Delgado, Jr., Jorge Roel Gutierrez, II, Alicia Marie Gutierrez, Xavier Rene Delgado, Raquel Selena Gutierrez (Oscar Cantu), Guadalupe Gutierrez, IV, Lorena Gutierrez, Sergio Antonio Gutierrez, Julian Javier Gutierrez, II, Miguel Riquerio Villarreal, Antonio Javier Gutierrez; great-granddaughters, Elena Madeline Cantu, Penelope Briseis Cantu; brothers, †Rolando (Graciela) Gutierrez, †Jesus M. (†Norma) Gutierrez, †Fernando (Ana Maria) Gutierrez, Abelardo (Amalia) Gutierrez, Alberto A. (Irasema) Gutierrez; sisters, †Miroslava Gutierrez, Patricia (Mario) Benavidez, Esmeralda (Rafael) Garcia, Maria Dolores (†Ponposo) Ramirez and by numerous nephews, nieces, other family members and friends.

Visitation hours were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

The funeral procession departed on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services followed at Zapata County Cemetery.
