ZAPATA, TEXAS---Gilberto "Gil" Lopez 48, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, Texas.

Mr. Lopez is preceded in death by his brother, Roberto Sergio Lopez.

Mr. Lopez is survived by his parents, Gilberto and Minerva Lopez; sisters, Minerva Lopez (Adreana Valadez), Miranda M. Lopez (Doug Cavallin); niece, Montserrat Peña; sons, Jay Robert Lopez, Landon Gilbert Lopez and by numerous other family members and friends.

Mr. Lopez was a Zapata High School graduate of class of 1990. He was Naval officer and he had a bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from University of Missouri he was also a member of Kappa Alpha PSI. Mr. Lopez was currently teaching Math in Pre-Engineering at Zapata High School.

The world rarely sees a man as caring, humble, exemplary and loving as him. His legacy will live on in our memory.

Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 , from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

A chapel service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery, including full Military Honors by the American Legion Post 486 Color Guard.
