ZAPATA, TEXAS---Elena Flores Stokes, 92, of Zapata, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at her residence, Paradise Point. She was born July 10th, 1925 the daughter of Adalberto Flores and Josefa San Miguel de Flores.

She is survived by her two sisters, Maria del Pilar (Charles) Vaughn and Josefa (†Paul) Camerlengo, sisters-in-law, Menita, Hilda, and Lydia Flores; three daughters, Cynthia Trapp-Flores ,H. Yvonne Trapp, and Gina Lynn (Hon. Judge Joseph) Rathmell; eight grandchildren, Consuelo (Romeo) Flores, Arturo (Lorena) Munoz, Clint (Stacey) Laney, Melissa (James) Newton, Luis Javier Flores, Gabriella (Luis Carlos) Guevara, Celia Andrea Rathmell, and Sarah Josephine Rathmell; 20 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Lynn Stokes Jr., her parents, her sister Consuelo (Delfino) Lozano, and brothers Adalberto Flores, Hon. Judge Angel Flores, Jose Maria (Hilda) Flores, Javier Flores, and a nephew, Delfino Lozano.

The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Mary Plattner, FNP of Zapata Primary Care, Marisol Gonzalez and her staff at Mi Pueblo Home Health, and Altus Hospice of Laredo for all of their care these last few months

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at Rose Garden Funeral Home in Zapata, Texas.

Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. given by her nephew, the Most Reverend, Bishop Daniel Flores of the Diocese of Brownsville.

Funeral procession began on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and burial services at the Zapata County Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home Daniel A. Gonzalez, Funeral Director, 2102 N. US HWY 83 Zapata, Texas.
