ZAPATA, TX---Don Hooks was born on April 25, 1946 in Tyler, Texas and passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by the care of his loving wife on April 15, 2022.


Don graduated from Tremble Tech High School in Fort Worth in 1964 where he studied welding. He later on served in the Army and was stationed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania serving his duty to the United States. After his service, Don returned to Texas where he owned his own welding company and traveled all over the states creating a name for himself. He liked to say he traveled all over the states but came to Zapata to find America, his beloved wife of 26 years and called Zapata his home town. Don was the type of man who wore his heart on his sleeve and held a strong work ethic in high regards.

Besides work, Don loved the outdoors and spending time at the ranch, he could be seen working with his tractor and clearing the man cave for the Cowboys games. He cherished time with family and vast friends he held dearly. His favorite past times included barbecuing, hunting, bass fishing at the lake, and above all watching the Dallas Cowboys win, lose,  or tie. He loved his family and would extend his hand and warm smile to all he greeted. He will be dearly missed by his wife, his children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all who had the honor of getting to know him.  No words can explain how much he will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Hooks, and his mother Mary Teich.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 26 years, America R.  Elizondo- Hooks, his children Donald (Rebeca) Hooks Jr., Heriberto A. (Amelia) Dominguez, Amado (Jessica) Garza III, Daughters Stayce (Kevin) Ferren, Neida (Hugo) Guerra, Alyzela (Corando) Barrera, Virma († Gary) Blomquist, sisters, Sharon Galbraith and Patti Goerte and extended family and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday April 20th, 2022 at 8 am at Rose Garden Funeral Home, following a service and veterans honor in his name.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has kept them in their thoughts and prayers and during this most difficult time. It is through everyone's heart felt condolences that they are comforted.
