Zapata, Texas- Derly Villarreal, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted public servant, went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2025, at the age of 95. He was born in Uribeño, Zapata County, Texas, and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Villareal is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dolores R. Villarreal of 60 years; parents, Catarino and Andrea Morales Villarreal; his sister, Olga; and his brothers, Francisco (Aminda) Villarreal and Roel M (Gloria) Villarreal.

A man of deep faith, integrity, and service, Derly lived a life rooted in hard work, humility, and devotion to God. A proud graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Laredo, Texas, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army at Fort Bliss, where he trained as an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Replacement, demonstrating courage, discipline, and steadfast dedication. In his twenties, Derly was elected Zapata County Commissioner, serving his community faithfully for 20 years. His lifelong commitment to others extended beyond politics — he also served as a School Board Member, always working to improve opportunities for local children.

Known as a faithful public servant, Derly believed in helping others, leading with compassion, and always doing what was right for his community. An entrepreneur and hardworking provider, he owned and operated Gulf Service Station and Villarreal LP Gas, LLC, businesses that became local landmarks built on honesty and trust. He was also a devoted rancher, finding great joy and peace in working the land, caring for his cattle, and sharing that way of life with his family. Ranching wasn't just his livelihood — it was his passion and his connection to God's creation. Derly was also a proud and active member of the Freemasons, having served for fifty years, with distinction, as a past Worshipful Master of Zapata Lodge #1402 in Zapata, Texas.  He was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #1103 in Zapata, Texas.

His commitment to brotherhood, charity, and moral virtue reflected the same principles that guided his public and personal life. Above all, Derly was a man of faith who lived by the words, "I trust in Jesus."

This unwavering belief carried him through every season of life and inspired everyone who knew him. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dolores whose memory he cherished every day. Together, they raised a family built on faith, love, and perseverance.

His five children survive Derly: Derly Villarreal, Jr. (Egna), Yolanda Villarreal, Graciela Valdez (Roberto), Leticia Villarreal, and Nora Norma Arellano (Jose); six grandchildren, Andrea Nicole McNaughton (Joe), Javier Adan Ramirez (Veronica), Rebecca Chantel Littleton (William), Angela Dolores Ramirez, Roberto Daniel Valdez, and Norma Michelle Ramirez; and five great-grandchildren: Arielle Madrigal, Adan Derly Ramirez, William Robert Littleton (Billy Bob), Katherine Grace McNaughton, and Sebastian Ramirez and brother Anibal Villarreal (Manuela).

Those who knew Derly will remember his quiet strength, his kindness, his love for the land, and his servant's heart. His legacy of faith, hard work, and generosity will live on in all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, we will open at 8:00 a.m. and depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery, including full Military Honors by the Zapata County Color Guard.
