Zapata, Texas-Antonio Luis Guevara.  With deep love and profound respect, the family of Antonio Luis Guevara announces his peaceful passing on June 30, 2025, at the age of 97.

A devoted father, grandfather, veteran, and pillar of strength, Antonio's life was defined by service, resilience, and an unwavering moral compass.

Born on August 25, 1927, in Laredo, Texas, Antonio was raised during the Great Depression in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, where he learned the values of hard work, grit, and humility—principles that would guide him for nearly a century. At age 18, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving admirably in the post-World War II era with deployment to Panama, exemplifying courage and commitment to his country.

Antonio spent most of his life in Zapata, Texas, where he raised a large and loving family and earned the respect of his community through a life of integrity and quiet wisdom. Despite limited formal education, he possessed deep insight and a sharp intellect, often sought after for guidance by many. He was a firm believer that the path out of poverty required both education and hard work, and he instilled those values in his children and grandchildren. His dedication and discipline built a legacy rooted in perseverance, dignity, and the belief that progress comes through effort and learning.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yolanda Ortega, and his second wife, Alicia Hinojosa; his siblings, Alfredo Guevara, Raul Guevara, Raymundo Guevara, Santiago Guevara and Roberto Guevara; his grandchildren, Juan Antonio Guevara Jr. and Eduardo Guevara; and a great-grandchild, Roberto Guevara.

He is survived by his seven children, Rosa Maria Guevara Montes MD, Juan Antonio Guevara, Jose Luis Guevara, Ricardo Guevara, Jose Maria Garza, Gerardo Guevara, Antonio Luis Guevara Jr.

Antonio leaves behind a powerful legacy 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, spanning five generations who carry forward his values and example. His life was a testament to perseverance, hard work, honor, and quiet strength. In the way he lived and loved, he taught us the true meaning of character. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation hours will be held on Sunday July 6, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

On Monday, July 7, 2024, we will open at 8 a.m. the funeral procession departed at 9:30 a.m. for an 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery, including full Military Honors by the Zapata County Color Guard.
