ZAPATA, TX---Anselmo Trevino, Jr. a very loving husband, dad, grandad and great-grandad, went to meet and was embraced by Jesus Christ unto his arms on February 29, 2024. He was born in Old Zapata on July 6, 1950. At the age of 3, his parents moved to Robstown, Texas due to the flooding of old Zapata. By 1956, they had moved back to new Zapata. On May of 1969, Anselmo graduated from Zapata High School. He was selected as Most Likely to Succeed by the teaching personnel of ZHS. He graduated from Texas A&I in 1972 with a teaching degree. By 1976, he received his Master's degree in education and psychology. Soon after, he obtained a Mid-Management and Superintendent certification. He was also a licensed insurance and real estate agent.

In 1975, Anselmo was appointed Principal of AL Benavides Elem School in San Ygnacio, TX. By 1983, he was appointed as Principal of North Elem. School in Zapata. In 1995, Anselmo was again appointed as ZCISD Special Education Director. He retired from the school system on 2000 to help care for his loving son Anselmito.

From 1983-2024, Anselmo was appointed as a Director of Zapata National Bank. In addition, he was appointed as a member of ZCISD School Board of Trustee and served as a board member for 19 years without opposition.

Anselmo kept active until his last days. He was a board member of the Zapata County Museum of Natural History as well as a member of the Zapata Genealogy Society. Anselmo's passion was developing his family tree using DNA testing. He was proud to tell all that his ancestors came to settle Zapata in 1767 to receive a land grant from the Crown of Spain. During his retirement years, Anselmo spent his time developing a personal family museum with many personal and historical documents/items and collecting rare historical books. He was also a past member of The Optimist Club and currently a member of The Retired Teachers Association.

In 1976, Anselmo married Rosa Nelia Garcia; it was love at first sight! Together they had 3 children (Angela Nelia, Andrew Joseph and the late Anselmo Trevino, III). The passing of Anselmo III was traumatic for both Anselmo, Jr. and for Rosa Nelia Trevino. They were never able to recover the loss of their son. Nevertheless, they knew that someday they were going to meet him in Heaven. That wish came sooner for Anselmo Jr. In 1975 he became a Catholic Currsillista and was dedicated to serving GOD. He always saw the good in all people and always trying to help anyone who came across him. He was always and intelligent and loving member of our community and our family. He was truly a son of GOD.

Anselmo is preceded in death by his son, Anselmo Trevino, III, his parents Anselmo & Consuelo Salinas Trevino and his in-laws Serapio & Maria M. Garcia. Also preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents Filiberto & Luisa Cuellar Trevino, and maternal grandparents Filemon & Rosario Benavides Salinas. Sister Consuelo T. (Duard) McGuffin. In-laws Elia (Ruben) Zapata, Serapio Garcia, Jr., Eulogio Garcia, Jesus Garcia and Elva Garcia and by sister-in-law Irene T. Garcia. Nephew Joel Eliud Garcia, III.

Surviving him is his beloved wife Rosa Nelia Garcia Trevino. They were married for 48 years. Also surviving him is daughter Angela Nelia Trevino Ramirez (Mario), Andrew Joseph (Christina) Trevino. His grandchildren are Mario Manuel Ramirez, III (Cassandra), Priscilla Atlanta Ramirez, Andrew Joseph Trevino, II and Colton Wade Trevino. He is also survived by his great-grandsons Mario Manuel IV, Theodoro Milan and Cody Luke. He is survived by sisters; Maria Elena (Ruben) Elizondo and Margarita (Antonio) Vidaurri. In-laws Micaela J. Garcia, Viola V. Garcia, Manuel M. (Enedelia) Garcia and Juan E. (Hortencia) Garcia, and by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Visitation hours will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. with a chapel service at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
