SAN YGNACIO, TX---Alicia Angelina Uribe passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 90. She was born on February 17, 1927 to Salomon R. Uribe and Maria R. Lozano Uribe in Laredo, Texas. A beautiful birthday celebration was held in her honor on February 18. It was a joyous occasion where family and friends gathered to share in their love for a truly remarkable amazing lady.

She was a lifelong resident of San Ygnacio, Texas. She graduated at the age of 16 from Martin High School in Laredo Texas. Shortly thereafter she began her teaching career in her hometown during the war years. So many local residents remember her and proudly say, " she was my teacher."

On June 11, 1950 she married her childhood sweetheart, Pedro Pablo Uribe, son of Primitivo Uribe and Julianita Villareal Uribe. She dedicated her life to her husband and three children. In 1967 she returned to college to complete her Bachelor of Education degree. She began her formal teaching career with the Zapata County Independent School District while attending summer classes at the university. In August 1971 she earned her B.S. in Elementary Education and graduated summa cum laude. She taught Kindergarten until the age of 70. She retired in 1997 after a 40 year career.

Her beloved Pedro died in 1981 leaving her a widow at the age of 54. Although she had a void in her heart, she continued to give selflessly and abundantly of herself to her family, friends and community.
She is now reunited with her husband and loved ones who preceded her in death. Husband: Pedro P. Uribe; parents: Salomon R. Uribe and Maria R. Lozano Uribe; brother: Rodolfo S. Uribe; great grandchildren: Soraya G. Rivera and Joaquin Z. Rivera.

She is survived by a daughter Diana A. Uribe (Mario R. Salinas), two sons Dr. Eduardo J. Uribe (Vielka L. Uribe) and Mario A. Uribe (Yvonne V. Uribe); eight grand children: Laura Diana Rivera, Carlos D. Rivera (Valeria Rivera), Rene R. Rivera, Pedro E. Uribe, Enrique A. Uribe, Rebecca R. Uribe, Roberto X. Uribe (Jody C. Uribe) and Ricardo D. Uribe; and, eight great grand children: Joseph and Jordyn Galzerano,; Cristian and Alexzandro Rivera; Angela, Sayari and Rene Jr. Rivera; and, Carina Rose Uribe; and two brothers; Armando R. Uribe (Kala Uribe), Javier R. Uribe (Ofelia Uribe) a sister in law Eliza C. Uribe (Rodolfo Uribe), three generations of nieces and nephews and Socorro Trejo, dear friend and companion.

" Para donde estas viendo mami…para el cielo. Y a quien ves…a Diosito" Our Lord took her home and led her by the hand. She will be missed by many and remembered for her generous ways, loving heart and endless wit. We love you 'Mita'…

Visitation hours were held on Friday, April 28, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Refuge Mission in San Ygnacio, Texas.

Committal services followed at Uribe Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home Daniel A. Gonzalez, Funeral Director, 2102 N. US HWY 83 Zapata, Texas.
