ZAPATA, TEXAS----Alfonso J. (Ponchito) Benavides Jr, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Methodist Hospital, in San Antonio Texas.

Ponchito is survived by his parents; Laura (Carlos) Herrera; brothers, Luis Rene Benavides, Carlos (Berenice) Herrera Jr.; maternal grandparents, Pedro A. (†Rosaura L.) Morales; grandmother, Teresa B. Herrera; uncle, Pedro M. (†Edith) Morales; aunts, Lydia Galvan, Linda (Alejandro) Arredondo. Also survived by his father, Alfonso J. (Lydia) Benavides and by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Special Thanks to his cousin Roxy for being his current provider and "Partner in Crime".

Visitation hours will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, we will open at 8:00 a.m. the funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
