Adelfa Pena Cuellar, 93, passed away peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Santa Rosa Ranch in Chihuahua, Texas with the love of her family surrounding her.
Previously departed loved ones include her husband, Antonio Cuellar, Sr.; parents, Alejo Pena and Eloisa Trejo Pena; son, Juan Alejo Cuellar (infant); grandson, Daniel Perez, Jr.; great-great-granddaughter, Kively Aimee; sisters, Belia (George+) Cooper, Elena Serna, Hermelinda (Felipe+) Martinez, and Magdalena (Donato+) Trejo.
Mrs. Cuellar will be lovingly remembered by her children, Antonio (Myrna) Cuellar, Jr., Alma (Nicolas) Lopez, Arturo Cuellar, Susie (Hector) Vela, Ana (Carlos) Gonzalez, Ariel (Nelly) Cuellar, Anabel (Cesar+) Lozano, Amada (Juan Rene) Molina, and Ada Cuellar (Juan Jose Lozano); sister, Paquita (Reuben+) Moore; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.
A native of Zapata, Texas, she was born to Alejo Pena and Eloisa Trejo Pena on February 9, 1928. Growing up, she had a love of hairdressing. On June 24, 1945, she and Antonio Cuellar, Sr. were united in matrimony after he completed his faithful service as a US Army soldier during World War II. The love and passion she had for hairdressing led her to attend and graduate from Austin Beauty College in 1959. She prided herself in raising her young children while putting herself through beauty college while Mr. Cuellar was often out of town working to provide for the family. She also prided herself in scoring a 98% on her cosmetology state licensure examination. She owned and operated Adelfa's Beauty Shop in Zapata, Texas from 1959 until her retirement in 1998. Throughout the years, she maintained a very loyal and faithful clientele. Her children and grandchildren witnessed her strength and determination as she raised her children while operating a full-time business. Her family will remember all the wonderful times they spent together at the family ranch in Chihuahua, Texas and her lovely, cozy home in Zapata. Her children and grandchildren would gather at the family ranch frequently, where they spent time together barbequing, playing, and enjoying each other in fellowship. She served as an excellent role model for her children, grandchildren, and future generations for her fortitude and strength, teaching them that if they work hard enough for what they want, they can obtain it.

Visitation hours will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 8:30 a.m. with a rosary at 9:00 a.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

The funeral procession will depart at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
